Xiamen
Airport Development Co., Ltd., which was established
in May 1996, is a joint-stock corporation
launched and sponsored exclusively by Xiamen
International Airport Group Co., Ltd. On April
17, 1996, with the approval of the China Securities
Regulatory Commission, the Company successfully
launched its initial public offering of 27
million common shares on the Shanghai Stock
Exchange, which began trading on the Exchange
subsequently on May 31 (Securities Abbreviation:
Xiamen Airport, Securities Code: 600897),
making the Company the first publicly-listed
company in the airport category in China's
civil aviation sector. After share transferring
and rationing in 1997, the total stock expanded
to 270 million shares, including 202.5 million
stated-owned corporate shares and 67.5 million
floating shares.
Xiamen Airport, which
represented a product of China's reform and
opening-up campaign, commenced operations
back in 1982. Following nearly two decades
of steady growth, there are currently 33 airlines
operating 119 domestic and international (or
regional) routes at Xiamen Airport, making
it one of the top 10 airports in Mainland
China in terms of the total number of passengers
handled and the 4th largest airport in Mainland
China in terms of the number of international
and regional passengers handled.
Since its listing
on the stock exchange, the Company has embarked
on standardized operations and steady expansion
under the corporate philosophy of "creating
a top-class airport service enterprise, implementing
'customers-first' operating guidelines, providing
the company's clients with unmatched services
and generating the best returns for the company's
shareholders". As of the end of 2001,
the Company's assets have totaled RMB 1.275
billion, with net assets worth RMB 1.144 billion.
